Questions expats ask

Frequently asked questions

Can I stay in Georgia without a visa?

Yes. Citizens of 95+ countries can stay in Georgia for up to one year without a visa. For stays beyond one year, or to work legally, you need a residence permit.

Do I need a residence permit to open a company?

No. You can register a company in Georgia without a residence permit. However, if you plan to live and work in Georgia long-term, a residence permit is recommended.

How long does it take to get a residence permit?

The State Services Development Agency decides within 30, 20 or 10 days, depending on the processing fee paid: 300, 450 or 600 GEL.

Can I open a bank account as a non-resident?

Yes, subject to the bank's own compliance review. Some banks onboard remotely; personal accounts usually require a visit in person. We prepare your file and choose the right bank.

What is the 1% tax for individual entrepreneurs?

Only individual entrepreneurs, not companies, can apply for small business status: 1% tax on turnover up to 500,000 GEL a year, provided the activity is eligible.

Can I buy property in Georgia as a foreigner?

Yes. Foreign nationals and companies can buy non-agricultural property in Georgia without restrictions. Agricultural land is subject to limitations.

Is healthcare affordable in Georgia?

Yes. Private healthcare in Georgia is significantly cheaper than in Western Europe or North America, with good-quality clinics in Tbilisi. We help you choose the right insurance plan.

How long does the full relocation take?

With a full relocation package, most clients are settled within three to six weeks: residence permit filed, bank account open, housing arranged and essentials in place.
